A battery swap should not effect the phone at all.
Apple stopped making 2g's a while ago, so your phone's battery is not as good as a new one. However I charge my new 3gs at least once per day, which is bad. My advise, after its fully charged do not use internet or any apps at all, if it lasts over day and a half then your battery is not bad. Iphone is getting warm while u using it is normal, unless it gets extremely hot of course.
