The 3rd Gen iPod nano is more square-shaped in comparison to the other nanos, comes in 4GB or 8GB, has a color screen that plays video, and was released September 2009.
The 4th Gen iPod nano has a taller screen than its counterparts, a curved surface, skip song by shake feature, plays video, comes in 8GB or 16GB and was released September 2008.
The iPod touch has a glass, touch screen display and comes in 8GB, 16GB, 32GB. The 2nd and 3rd Gen iPod touches feature a built in speaker and external volume control, while the 1st Gen does not.
The 3rd Gen iPod comes in only white, features four navigation buttons above the scroll wheel and a monochrome screen, comes in 10, 15, 20, 30 and 40GB, and was released April 2003.
The iPod mini comes in a variety of colors, has a monochrome screen, aluminum housing, comes in 4GB or 6GB and was released January 2004 (not to be confused with the small 2nd Gen iPod nano).
The Original iPod, also known as the 1st or 2nd Gen iPod, features a monochrome screen, white scroll wheel with navigation button that surround the wheel, comes in 5GB or 10GB, and was released October 2001.
The U2 iPod comes in two models. 5th Gen U2: just like the 5th Gen iPod (see above) but with black face and red scroll wheel. 4th Gen: just like the 4th Gen iPod (see above, but with black face and red scroll wheel.
