Howdy!

Being in the iPhone and iPod (and soon to be iPad!) repair biz, you get to see some really awful stuff come through the doors. Seriously, screens that are completely demolished, nanos that are so bent that they form right angles or even first gen iPhones missing their silver backplates entirely. It’s enough to make a grown nerd cry! It never ceases me amaze me how messed up this little electronic can get! It’s nuts. No matter, though, because our repair technicians give each and every device a thorough evaluation before we have to call the time of death. We don’t judge based on how ugly its mug is–everyone gets an equal chance. :)

Speaking of busted devices, there does seem to be a pattern of people not in the know that their device can be fixed–it never fails! I’ll be roaming about San Antonio and I’ll see someone carefully trying to maneuver around the shards of glass from their iPhone. Or, I’ll see a friend with an iPod video that sounds like it doubles as a trash compactor. I start to wonder if people know that they can get ‘em fixed or maybe it’s just the economics of the matter. Either way, we like to spread the word about our great repair solutions with great prices to match. Just give us a call and we’ll see if we can get you a ballpark price for those more ambiguous repairs! We have real AND knowledgeable people on the receiving end of your inquiry. We’re all happy to help!

Well, I know that there have been plenty of accidents that we’ve fixed, but truth be told, sometimes we like to keep a small collection of old parts to remember the worst of the worst. I’m starting to think we should make some kind of art out of it. Well, I [carefully] dug around and found the nastiest digitizers. I don’t remember all the backstories, but I rememeber something about a tank, a nailgun and maybe even a firetruck…Anyways, after nearly cutting my little fingers up, I got this shot:

Keep those phones safe! :)

“WRITERS BLOCK – A usually temporary psychological inability to begin or continue work on a piece of writing.”

Yep. Thats what I have. Big Time. It isnt very temporary though. Which isnt very good considering I have 4 songs that I need to finish writing. Not to mention this blog. :-/  So what causes our minds to go blank?! Im assuming its the lack of inspiration. Ive been so busy with fixing/evaluating your ipod/iphone, that I havent been able to do anything cool. WAIT!!!!

Inspiration has hit me.  So awhile back I saw this movie with Mel Gibson, “the edge of darkness”. I think thats what it’s called. Anyways, the whole thing was about revenge. Trying to get someone back for pain that they have caused you. For years now, ive been wanting to write a song about revenge, but ive never had that feeling. Sure ive been mad at people, but ive never wanted to cause harm to anyone. Then I got some inspiration. 3 weeks after christmas, my house was broken into. DVDs, iPods, Jewlery, and my brothers brand new Playstion 3 were stolen. Ive never felt soooo much anger before. I wanted these people to feel the pain that they caused my family. Then I saw that movie. The whole time I was like, “yea!”. haha, but then I realized, causing the bad guys pain wasnt going to bring back his daughter. (sorry if I ruined the movie there) So as the movie was coming to an end, I  got this little melody in my head. Then I started putting some lyrics to it. I kept thinking, ” i have to get home to my guitar, or else im gonna lose this.” Then I remembered that I have the best tool for music on the go……my iPHONE!!! As im walking out of the theater I pulled out my phone, went into the voice notes app and sang the lyrics to the melody I came up with. As soon as I got home, I went straight to my guitar and started writing the song. “Revenge”. Its probably my favorite song that i’ve written. Still needs a little more work though. :)

Im sorry this blog went a little all over the place….but thats something I like. Spontaneous writing. I never know what Im gonna write till my fingers hit the keys.

Well thats it for me folks. Spring Break starts next week, please be safe. :)

(I dont know if I need to do this, but im not gonna take any chances)

Kyn Sparks Blows the Follow-Through with iGarageFloor.com

Kyn Sparks Blows the Follow-Through with iGarageFloor.com

When we shelled out big bucks for our stunning new flooring at our iPhone and iPod (and soon to be iPad repair shop), we thought it would be durable and last the test of time. But the iGarageFloor.com (aka PolymerGarage.com) flooring couldn’t hold up to a simple office chair with plastic wheels, as evidenced by this video:

YouTube Preview Image

We can understand it when unexpected things happen – heck, we see it in our business every once in a while – a part fails suddenly and a customer will call us on it. But we stand up and fix the issue. Kyn Sparks, despite numerous attempts to get him to fix the worn-out section of flooring with a new polymer coating, has ignored several attempts to resolve the situation.

This demonstrates to me that iGarageFloor.com (or now known as PolymerGarage.com) is more concerned about scoring new jobs than taking care of their previous customers. The importance of follow-through has apparently been lost on Kyn Sparks, and that’s a sad thing, as I believe taking care of your existing customer base is equally if not more important that efforts to find new customers.

So if you are hunting around for a new polymer garage floor in San Antonio, make sure that the company you select will be there before, during, and especially after to job is complete. If you don’t, you might just have a constant reminder staring you in the face that some people just don’t care.

ONE GAME THAT TRULY IS DESERVING OF AN IPHONE APP

Monday, March 1st, 2010

‘Ello ‘Ello!

I hope life has been good to everyone this weekend,

It has for me, but i come bearing a dilemma, of sorts, with the lack of a certain APP on the iphone now or even in the near future im sure.

When i was 8 years old The Legend Of Zelda : Ocarina of Time came out on the still fresh N64 game console. I remember getting it for christmas the month after it came out. The actual storyline to the game, at first glance of the back of the box description, seems very cliche “hero saves the princess from a terrible evil”.

Once you play the game for little over 30 minutes though you begin to realize the depth and mystery to the unfolding story of a kingdom plagued by its own control over time and the greater divine forces that govern the world. Even as an eight year old i could sense while i was playing the beginning portion that some very intense, and for lack of a better phrase, EPIC events were about to come forth and shoot through my unsuspecting sponge of a mind, and forever change my views as a person (though i didn’t realize it til about high school when i got into philosophy and all that). With some of the most intense dungeons, baffling mazes and puzzles, and the most surreal landscapes and songs that will stick with you for years (im listening to one right now!) as well as an endless supply of unique characters and sub-stories behind each one, this game is by far one of the best games of this and last decade. Truth is, the greater meaning behind the game that you will discover at the end (or even a couple of plays through) will blow you away ten times more than the actual game play will, though im more than sure you wont be able to leave your TV for at least 2 hours between each session.

Little do people know that the creator of Mario Bros. is the same creator of the Zelda series. He has also stated that though they both were created at the same time and are closely related (as you see in Zelda games, i.e. Mario pictures hanging on the walls of the castle in Hyrule, or in Paper Mario you can see the hero of Zelda laying in a bed in the mushroom village), he decided to take Mario in a more linear direction, with lots of movement and time restrictions, while making Zelda a complete opposite game of free adventure and endless play time.

Whats funny is that Mario became a much more world known household name, but zelda to this day (which has just half as many games out as mario bros.) holds the title for the best nintendo franchise for a game, though sadly only one out of every 20 people i meet have even heard the name Zelda.

So please, lets all come together and bring light to this problem.

Someone out there needs to make a cool APP to play an iphone version of Zelda somehow, because everybody knows (nerds like myself) that computer emulators just ARE NOT the same thing as our beloved consoles. Though an ipod APP wont do it full justice.

Wheres the love for Zelda? mine is on my left arm, where is yours?

your friendly neighborhood friend,

Mike 2.0

How to keep your beloved iPod/iPhone safe.

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

I repair tons of iPhones and iPods a week, usually noticing a trend on why certain devices break or crack. Here’s a list of things you can do to prevent any damage from your precious device.

1. Get a case for you iPod/iPhone (preferably a rubberized one). I noticed that an iPhone can break real easily if dropped on the floor from just a couple of feet above ground. If you have a case that can absorb some of the impact, then theres less of a chance that the glass on your iPhone will break. The same goes for the glass and LCD’s on iPods and the iPod touch.

2. Keep your iPod/iPhone away from water. Water damage is the number one reason a iPod or iPhone stops functioning fully. It will cause corrosion on major parts of the logic board, causing the device to work funny or stop working at all.

3. Avoid jail-breaking your iPod touch/iPhone. A jail-break on these device’s can run down a healthy battery  and may cause a device to act very slow. There are a number of weird issues people come across when they jail-break their device.

4. Be careful where you leave your iPod/iPhone. If you leave your device in a car on a  very hot day, there is a chance that something may cook on the inside, and making your device useless. Also, keep it with you at all times when in public, because these devices are a great prize in a robber’s eye. When your not using it, make sure to store it in a secure place that is dry and cool.

If anything bad happens to your device, there is no need to worry. There is a chance that a technician here at Milliamp will be able to help you. So no matter how bad the damage looks, it cant hurt to go with our evaluation service to see what we can to do to get your device up and running again.

Ensure a Safe iPod Repair – Use Correct Packaging

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

We see it every once in a while, perhaps as frequent as twice a month, where we get an envelope or a small mailer that is supposed to contain an iPod or an iPhone, but when we open it – nothing inside. Sometimes the tear in the envelope is obvious – you can see where the iPod busted free from it’s paper packaging. Other times, the box is sealed with tape, but there was just enough gap to allow an un-secured iPod nano from slipping out.

We of course hate when this happens – we lose a sale and of course have to break the bad news to the customer.

iPod Repair Starts with Good Packaging

iPod Repair Starts with Good Packaging

That is why we try to give our customers guidance when it comes to selecting the right materials for wrapping up your device so that it is well-protected during the trip to us, as well as making sure it does not slide loose from its’ packaging. And never, ever toss your iPod or iPhone into a regular plain evelope – or we might have to tell you that your device arrived in worse shape than when you sent it, or it never arrived at all.

A Shorter, Sweeter, More Direct Phone Greeting

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

We are continuously looking for ways to improve things here at Milliamp, like our infamous laser pointers, and recently focused our attention to the telephone greeting that people first hear when they call in to us.

We get a lot of phone calls each day – a LOT (just ask Marian).

Therefore, we wanted to make our greeting simplier and to the point, and help people get to the correct department quickly and painlessly. We also added a quick shout-out in our greeting to the iPad repairs that we will be offering very soon to the masses.

Curious and don’t want to call in to hear it? Take a listen here:

New iPhone Repair Greeting

Speaking of iPad repair shout-outs, we also recently updated the signature line on our emails, to help spread the word that we have yet another Apple device to add to our list of devices that we can repair here at Milliamp.

Knocking Live Video/ Words With Friends

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Hello everyone! So I have a pretty exciting week coming up. I get to go to the NBA All-Star game in Dallas, and I get to see my favorite band of all time (SWITCHFOOT)….twice! Thanks to the greatness that is the iPhone, i’ll be able to share my experiences with some friends. There is a new App out calles “Knocking Live Video”. This thing is amazing. It does exactley what the title says……LIVE VIDEO! All I have to do is send out an invite to someone who has the app and voila! They can see whatever image is coming from my iPhone. Isn’t that awesome?! This is the kinda of technology that I get excited for. This App is basically what I imagined the future to be like when I was little. Now I know we have webcams and what not, but this is something on my phone!

Another cool App that I love is “Words with Friends”. I love all the cool App Games that I have on my phone, but this is a game that I can play with my friends and family. Im even playing with my Aunt! The game is basically Scrabble. I’ve gotten into a few competitative games with my best friend Kyle, who is a genius. I have yet to beat him…..even when I cheat. :)

Well thats pretty much it for me friends. I should have another post next with my the tale of my All-Star game adventure. Also, while im in Dallas, im gonna try to go to some good eating spots for a review. Have a great weekend and stay out of the rain if you’re in San Antonio, see you next time.

Will the iPhone 4G be Called an ‘iPhone Video’?

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

The Apple rumour mill is swirling again, hard-core, this time, about the possbility of a new 4th Generation iPhone, or iPhone 4G.

To give you a brief historical tour of the iPhone, the very first iPhone that came out in June 2007 has been confusingly dubbed the 2G iPhone, because the iPhone that was released after it was called the iPhone 3G (since it could run on the EDGE and the 3G cellular network). The next iteration of the iPhone after the iPhone 3G was the iPhone 3GS, where the ‘S’ suffix was tacked onto the end (presumably to reflect the faster processing ’speed’ inside the device).

Since this would be the fourth version, or generation, of the Apple iPhone, and because the phone may use (or be capable of using) the 4G cellular network, people are currently referring to it as the iPhone 4G. Perhaps that name will stick, and Apple will release the next iPhone as the iPhone 4G. But I am not totallly convinced that this will be the official Apple name for the new iPhone – expecially now that a few pictures have surfaced of a digitizer/LCD that is a smidge taller than the previous iPhone 3G/S digitizers, courtesy of iResQ:

Could the New iPhone Sport Video Capture Functionality?

Could the New iPhone Sport Video Capture Functionality?

The photographs, which I believe are real and have not been doctored in any way, show a small, oblong opening right above the earpiece. Some believe this could be a proximity sensor, and some have gone so far as to imagine that it is a video camera that would allow for video chatting. The surface of this strange component has interestingly been described as “reflective”.

Is it possible that this material would allow for a special video camera behind it to see though this barrier and capture images, in the same manner as a two-way mirror? And why is the material “reflective”? Well, that would make a great surface to gaze into to ensure that your mug was in view if you were video-chatting with someone, wouldn’t it?! Of course, this is all wild theory right now – very few people know for sure what Apple’s new iPhone will look like, and what features it will support, and no one is officially talking about it on the record now.

Some have suggested that this port is a proximity sensor only (the part inside every iPhone that dims and locks out your screen as you hold it up to your face), but perhaps it can do that, plus more?

To take this a step further, IF the new iPhone DOES have video capture and chatting capabilities, I think it is possible that the new iPhone could be dubbed the iPhone Video (maybe you will have heard it here first).

Apple has used the word ‘Video’ before in its’ iPod product line: the 5th Generation iPod Video was the first iPod to be able to play movies, television shows, commercials, and so on, hence the name. And if an iPhone was released that had the ability to capture full-motion video and allow for real-time video chats is such a smooth and non-obtrusive manner as the location and appearance that this suspicious, reflective port suggests, it is likely that the word ‘Video’ (or perhaps just a letter ‘V’ [iPhone 3GV, anyone?!]) will be tied with the new name.

So what do you think? Does Apple plan on offering a video capturing feature with their new iPhone? Will the new iPhone be called an iPhone 4G? Will companies like ours start promoting ‘iPhone Video Repair‘? Only time will tell, my iPhone-loving friends!

Bling-blingin’ Golden Backplate Giveaway Extravaganza Fun-time Fest ‘10 Winner

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

bling-bling!

At Milliamp, we’re all a bunch of winners, but occasionally we do have to draw one out of a hat in order to determine the leader of the pack. Last week, we were busy bees doing our weekly hustle and bustle to fix iPods, rescue iPhones, revive an XBOX (or ten!), answers inquiries all while keeping a smile on our faces! We kick ass and take names and then kick ass again. Rain couldn’t get us down especially after Anthony announced the big giveaway of the highly coveted golden backplate for one lucky employee’s iPhone 3G or 3G S.

When asked if they were excited about the giveaway, fellow Customer Service Rep Wes couldn’t hardly sit still to harp about how ecstatic they were about the possibility of one of the talented repair technicians pimping their iPhone! A simple, “S*** YES!” surely said it all.

Although our bearded friend did not win, we are proud to announce Mark as the Chosen One. After our weekly company powwow where the winner was drawn, Mark did a jig, fist pump and cheerfully claimed his prize after hearing of the joyous news.

In fact, Mark was so excited about this extreme makeover his already cool iPhone, he decided that his normal casual look would have to be “bumped up a notch.” No, no–Mark did not decide to start rocking fat gold chains with cubic zirconia-laden pendants hanging from his neck. No, he opted for the much classier golden “grill” to jazz up his pearly whites.

So, if you see Mark, know that he’s in an elite club that YOU TOO can join if you send your iPhone into us for repairs. Interested in looking like a rockstar? Then click here to get started.

Gleeson CD Release/Independence Brewery/Exhaustion

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

Hello fellow milliampers!  It’s time for me to tell you about my weekend again, since I have apparently no imagination (feel free to interject with an adamant ‘NO!!’).  Friday started out normally enough, work and my lovely interactions with clumsy iPhone owners.  After saving the world one digitizer at a time, I began my voyage to Austin, TX with a couple of amigos.  We passed the time by listening to lame 80s music and trying to guess the name of the band (Ratt, etc.) with the help (of course) of an iPhone and that song-recognition app (i sadly don’t have an iPhone and don’t know what it’s called).  After  enough of that torture, we finally made it to The Hole in the Wall off Guadalupe in Austin.  There, Clay Nightingale and Moonlight Towers (first time seeing them, awesomenessss)

Gleeson performing with Channing Lewis of Grand Champeen

performed before my good friends Gleeson (The Very Very Best of Gleeson) played their CD release show.  They basically played the whole record, which was amaaazing (plus AC/DCs Dirty Deeds…unfortunately they didn’t play ‘Victoria’ by The Kinks and i was somewhat disappointed).  They were joined on stage by Grand Champeen’s Channing Lewis (check out ‘Dial T for This’) and Mandible’s Phil McEachern (Here Come the Mandible).  I highly suggest pretty much every band i’ve mentioned (Ratt’s Round &Round is pretty legit… haha).  Well after the show (Gleeson didn’t play ’til 12:30, but I was high on rock’n'roll(aaaand had a little Shiner)..so I didn’t even notice), we crashed at some friend’s house where I received a horrible night’s sleep on the floor.  For some reason, I’m a disgustingly early of a morning person and woke up at 8:52 a.m. (yes, that time is burned into my memory because it was so horrific) and proceeded to make everyone breakfast with my buddy Jay, who is also a morning person (thank God).  Anyways, after that we all went to Independence Brewery in Austin (duh).  SIX dollars for a pint glass and three pints of their cerveza deliciosa!! (oatmeal stout=fun times for your taste buds, they need lovin’ too!!!)  It was a beauuuutiful day and we spent it drinkin some berrrs (beers with an awesome Creed-esque accent) and hanging out on some blankets, haha.  The tasting at the brewery is the first Saturday of each month! I plan on going back fo’ sho, although I did break the pint glass i bought upon arriving back at my apartment.  Here I am, finally arriving home after an exhausting weekend of good times and I try to make it out of my car with all of my schtuff.  As you can infer, this was a bad idea and I broke/shattered the glass upon heaving my lifeless body out of my civic.  I was sad.  Buuuut I’ll just go back next month and get another pint glass (great excuse, ya?).  Well if curiosity overcomes your being and you’re thinking “Hey, Lindsey’s a pretty cool girl, perhaps I should check out some of the music she’s suggested to me?  She wouldn’t lead us astray!!”, then you are in luck my friends!  Cdbaby.com carries all of the albums I’ve mentioned!  (http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/Gleeson)  From that site, you can navigate to the other records I’ve mentioned in this eloquent journey of writing.  I’ve been listening to Here Come the Mandible a lot lately, every song is really great.  The songs are a really imaginative way of looking at life, coupled with quirky and sometimes pessimistic lyrics plusss really catchy tunes.  It’s a win-win.  Anyways, if you like what you hear let me know by commenting on the blog!  Don’t worry, I’ll be back soon to tell you about yet another weekend’s occurences!! :D

p.s. Here is the link to Gleeson’s myspace:http://www.myspace.com/gleesonmusic  You can listen to a couple of full songs, and ironically enough all of the other bands are in their top friends! enjoy!!

A Little iPad Repair Luck, Domain-Name Style

Monday, February 8th, 2010

For those that know me, I have a bit of a domain name addiction. I think it reached its’ peak of insanity when I purchased the domain blake-is-the-new-sanjaya.com (true story) a few years back when Sanjaya was voted off ‘American Idol’ and hack Blake was deemed the next in line Howard Sterns’ goal to inspire enough people to vote a talentless dweeb to the top spot.

I’ve struggled to hold my personal obsession with URL’s back, but I think we got a bit lucky when, back in April 2009, we registered the iPad repair domain names ipad-repair.com and ipadrepair.com. Since we are going to be hard-core in the iPad repair business, having domain names that say what we do will be most helpful to Milliamp LTD:

New iPad Repair Domains

Two New iPad Repair Domain Names

For now, these two sites aren’t doing a whole heck of a lot for us, but they will eventually become a great resource for our future customers seeking iPad repairs and parts.

Now, who has any suggestions for helping us monitize our leet-inspired domain names for Twitter?

Have a great evening,

Photographs of the iPad’s Internal Frame have been widely circulated on the internet, but no one has really taken the time to closely examine these pictures…until now.

Follow the musings of our iPod and iPhone (and soon to be iPad) -fixing technicians as we pour over every photographic-inch of the internal frame that will allegedly be inside Apple’s iPad. We will give you our thoughts on iPad design and functionality at our new IPAD Repair website. Apple iPad: Overview of what we know

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Image Via www.apple.com

I’m sure by now the media has covered everything there is to know about Apples new iPad, but I wanted to make a list of key specifications that makes up this device.

CPU: This consists of Apples custom 1GHz processor made by Samsung.

Storage: The iPad will come in a 16, 32, and 64 gigabyte models.

Display: The iPad will have a 9.7 inch display screen with a resolution of 1024 by 786. It also has the finger print resistant (oleophobic) coating that is seen on the iPhone 3GS.

Wireless: It comes with the normal 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi (seen in most laptops and net books today). There is an option to get it in a 3g version which you can use with ATT (in the United States). Its going to be a micro sim card technology, which T-mobile is not going get. Also, it comes with Bluetooth 2.1

Ports: It has a regular headphone jack connector, and a 30 pin dock connector.

Other: It has a built in microphone and speaker for listening to music out loud and recording voice notes and other applications (Skype anyone?). The iPad claims to have 10 hour battery life, which is awesome, but we’ll see when it comes out.

Hardware: The iPad (to me) looks like a giant iPhone  with the integration of a aluminum Macbook Pro.

OS: Its a version of iPhone OS that allows it to have other programs such as the iWork suite, and the online book store called iBooks.

What I’d like it to have: I’d like the iPad to have multitasking support. I want to be able to listen to Pandora radio while working an an email document, or browsing the web. When it comes to the web, I really want the iPad to support Flash. Apple calls this device the perfect browsing experience, but a big part of the web is Flash. I don’t know whats keeping this device from supporting flash, but its a real let down that this device doesn’t have flash. I was really hoping for some sort of Mac OS on this device, but then it would probably cost way more then the starting $500. The iPad should also have an option for more storage. If this is going to be a great device to watch movies on, you should have at least 128gb of storage to store them (and your music) on.

What did you want on the iPad? Did it exceed your expectations? Or are you wanting more? Either way, I believe this is going to be a very successful Apple device that will sell like crazy.

As a technician/quality control guy here at Milliamp, I am greatly looking forward to seeing this device and working on it. But lets hope people don’t start breaking these things right when they come out.

iPhone Home Button Repair Surgery Helps Customer with Special Needs

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

When we were contacted by a customer that asked if we could make the Home Button on his iPhone 3GS easier to press, we asked him to send it on in and we’d see what we could do. It took several tries back and forth before we got it right, but the outcome was more than worth it – the customer can now use his iPhone 3GS again, thanks to our crack staff of iPhone repairmen.

We did a press release about this in case you want the details.

iPhone Home Button Pressure Mounts

This fellow has another iPhone that he is sending our way so we can repeat the procedure.

While this was one of the more challenging repairs we do, it was a refreshing break from the daily dose of iPod batteries, iPhone screens, and iPod nano glass that we repair. Being able to help customers when the have a problem is why we are in business, and success stories like being able to make the Home Button easier to press for this customer is very rewarding.

Take A Break From The Tablet Hype

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

As I’m sure many of you are aware, the magnanimous Apple Computer Company is making an announcement of epic proportions tomorrow. King Jobs will address his minions at 10 A.M. pacific time (I’ve included a picture of the event’s invitation).

I wonder what will be unveiled???

Rumors are running rampant, and it seems like every single news source and blog is trying to predict exactly what Apple will be announcing, so is everyone here at Milliamp and it is kind of in our interest (you know, we make the best repairs to Apple’s most used product). Around the web it seems like most are predicting an announcement of the unicorn-eque Apple Tablet, iSlate, iPad, etc. etc. etc. If there’s one thing I’m excited about more than anything, it’s finally knowing the name of the thing! the rumors are getting ridiculous. Besides the tablet, some expected announcements include iPhone 4.0 OS, the end of AT&T iPhone exclusivity, a 4G iPhone with front facing camera, and the list goes on. I’ve gotten lost out there in the interweb trying to make sense of all these rumors, exciting leaks, and ridiculous postulations. So,  I’ve resolved to let it lie until Wednesday, when the speculation will finally end, and just relax and not stress myself about it. I’ve been able to do this with the help of a few REALLY great records.

If you find yourself in the same position I found myself in last night, frantically searching the web for the most up to date information about Apple’s announcement and whether or not it will be webcast, blah blah blah… go get yourself an account at lala.com (oddly enough, now owned by Apple, ugh.), take a free listen through these three records, and let the Apple fanaticism wash away.

1. “Elysium” – The Velvet Teen

If you’re the melodramatic, chamber-pop loving type, give this one a listen. Singer Judah Nagler puts on a heart-wrenching performance throughout the entire album; from soaring, epic, string-laden crescendos to quiet introspective whispers, this record will surely take your mind off of the tablet madness. Check out “Penicillin (It Doesn’t Mean Much)” to start.

2. “He Has Left Us Alone But Shafts Of Light Sometimes Grace The Corners Of Our Rooms” – Silver Mt. Zion

This album’s solemn, cinematic meandering can be likened to, as one of our tech’s said, “a  really sad German World War II film.” I can’t say I agree, but you will most definitely be taken to another place, this record will melt you into whatever chair you happen to be occupying and prevent you from getting up until its conclusion. Really though, take a seat, put your head back and enjoy, you’ll thank me later.

3. “Tail, Swallower, and Dove” – These Arms Are Snakes

This selection is for those who need a bit more energy and attitude to get their mind off of the goings-on. Tail, Swallower… was by far one of my favorites from 2009, and sadly the final record from the recently split These Arms Are Snakes. Moving from groovy, off-kilter rockers like “Prince Squid” to entrancing, ethereal  revelations like “Briggs,” Snakes will give you your money’s worth and MAKE you forget about what you were doing.

Take my advice, let the rumor hunt go! just sit back, take a listen, and bliss out until Wednesday. See you then fanatics.

iPad iTablet iSlate Device Will Spike Bluetooth Headset Sales

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

I am going to go out on a limb here and say that, if Apple does indeed release a tablet device AND it will be capable of connecting to AT&T’s 3G network, sales of miniture bluetooth headsets will increase exponentially. I recently smashed my iPhone 3G late last week, and found myself debating if I should buy a new iPhone 3G, new iPhone 3GS, or hang until the official word from Apple about their rumoured new slate tablet computer.

If there is such an animal, i would probably switch from my iPhone to the tablet exclusively. But there ain’t no way I’m going to hold that honking thing up to my ear – bluetooth headset all the way. That gets me wondering, however, about the range of bluetooth – could I have my tablet device powered on and sitting on my desk, but then take a phone call if I was in our Shipping Office? Then, what if I want to MAKE a call? I’d have to walk to my desk, grab the tablet, and dial out. Sounds like a bluetooth dialer that can interface with the tabet would be a nice thing to have if I was in that situation, but wanted to MAKE a call…

Apple iSlate Will Probably Require Bluetooth Heaset Usage

iSlate iPad iTablet Repairs

I pretty much use my iPhone for searching the web, text messaging, and blasting out milliamp tweets, with taking and making phone calls lower on down that list, so converting to an iPad might be easier for me than perhaps hard-core iPhone telephone users.

To say that we are excited about being able to offer Apple iTablet Repairs to the masses is an understatement here at milliamp – we are chomping at the bit to pick up a few of ‘em and check out the what I assume will be a fascinating design. No doubt within hours of hitting the streets, the Apple iPad tablet will, well, literaly hit the street, meaning lots of calls from stressed out owners that are needing to get a new iSlate screen repair – and when they do, the repair website milliamp.com will be there.

Focused iPod Repair Technicians Hard at Work

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

We have had lot of devices hit the doors here at milliamp.com, and our technicians have stood up to deal with the flood. Here are some of them hard at work, installing new screens in broken first, second, and third generation iPod touch (or is it touches? That just does not sound right…), soldering in new batteries covered for ten year in Apple’s iPhone 3G, iPhone 3G, and the first iPhone 2G, changing the glass out of 4th and 5th generation iPod nanos, as well as a myriad of other repairs on earlier generations of the iPod nano, 5th Generation iPod Video, iPod classic Sixth Generation, and even some of the more obscure models like the iPod mini.

Working Hard So You Don't Have To

Working Hard So You Don't Have To

In fact, our technicians have even been coming in after hours, oftentimes late into the night, to help us get caught up. On the flip side, we need an army of customer service representatives, shippers, and receivers to keep the devices flowing in and out of our shop.

P.S. And if anyone can explain why Ryan is wearing a green towel on his head, please fill me in. Enter the coupon code ‘greentowel’ during checkout on milliamp.com and receive 15 percent off your order total – this week only!!

We Yong Yang, Do You?

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

Yong in the Milliamp House

We had the good fortune to have one of our iPod parts supplier Yong (but because it sounds so similar, we call him Mike) visit milliamp-Central last week. He spent three days in the Alamo City, and it was complete with tours, late-night brainstorming sessions, and the requisite dinner at Pappadeaux’s for a delicious Swamp Thing.

Heck, we even managed to work in a Spurs game, and got to watch Kobe Bryant head back West in shame.

Getting good, quality iPod parts and iPhone parts is an art, and it’s important to have your suppliers lined up. It is also important to be able to communicate with them and explain that we only want the best iPhone and iPod parts available. It is not every day that a supplier comes to visit us here in the United States – usually, we have to go there in order to get that point across.

It is nice to see suppliers coming here to meet with us so we can finally put a face with an email address. This openess can only bring good things: better parts, better prices, and even new supply chains that will dazzle the competition.

iPhone Camera is Awesome

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

I love photography. If time would allow (as well as my wallet and hard drive), I would take pictures ALL of the time for any particular moment that happened to strike my fancy! I am constantly thinking about how to create images to my liking without the overload of Photoshopping that many tend to retreat to if their photo doesn’t come out as “sweet” as they would have liked. Composition, exposure, shutter speed, ISO, etc: these are all words that get me pumped!

So, what’s a girl like me supposed to do doing the day when I don’t have my clunky dSLR handy? Well, I bust out my iPhone! It’s got pretty decent quality for being a 3G — I’m holding out for the next model after the 3G S — and it doesn’t require a whole lot of thinking. Open Camera, think about how you want to compose your image and tap! Now you’ve got a photo stored conveniently in your Photos for a look see after you snap another.

Maybe just point and tap isn’t your thing or isn’t interesting enough? I’ve got the gospel of all iPhone photography apps for this one: CameraBag. You can now take that picture of your niece on her 4th birthday and add filters to it to spice it up a few notches. Some cleverly (and eerily familiar) names include Helga, Lomo, Colorcross, Instant and even 1974!

Still not convinced that you can create insanely cool photos with your iPhone? DOWNLOAD this app and see for yourself!
