Superbowl Food!!!

Friday, February 5th, 2010

The Saints and the Colts are getting ready to battle it out on the field and all I can think about is seven layer dip, oh wait hamburgers, no maybe even steak.  Dont get me wrong I am a football fanatic, but this game means good home cooked food.  I am a college student and do not get meals like this very often so this is gold for me.  Almost as gold as those new backplates we recieved!(yeah you like that)  Anyways I have already made a list of what peoplel shoud have for the game.  First off, you have to have your beer, whats football without it.  Next move in to the dips and chips.  Salsa and queso is a must in Texas, as well as the seven layer dip.  You can throw in a french onion if you want but you shouldnt need it.  Moving on, get the grill fired up for some burgers, brats, and hotdogs.  Make sure you have all the condiments you need you dont want to run to the store in the 4th quarter for some relish.  Last off, the desserts!  One word, well two words… OREO BALLS, my friend Ashley made these a few years ago for the superbowl and they were amazing.  So good that I ate until I really was sick.  But now that I know that girl scout cookies are back in business I am going to have to add them to the list because face it there girl scout cookies.  I dont know how someone could perfect a cookie as well as the girl scouts of america.  Well I hope everyone eats well this superbowl sunday, and maybe gets to watch a little football.  Goooooooooo Saints!

Keep Your New Year’s Resolution

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Almost everyone makes the New Year’s resolution of being healthier and losing weight, which is why you see all of the gyms packed for the month of January and possibly February. In the spirit of things, I decided to check out the top health tips on my iPhone to share with everyone to help you meet your resolution!

The very best thing that you can do for yourself is to eliminate fat in your diet. You may be surprised at how much weight you can easily shed if you stop eating obviously fatty foods, like burgers, fried foods, ribs, you name it. It is important to have good fats in your diet, like avocados and nuts, but not something that comes from McDonald’s!

The another easy trick instead of joining the gym right away on January 1 is to move as much as you can. The iPhone has a number of pedometer applications, which will help you to track how much you walk on a daily basis. You can use these opportunities to take the stairs more often, walk to the store, or get moving outside.

And the last health tip for the new year is to quit smoking! This will make a serious difference and help you to meet your health goals.

Vacation pt. 2: The Food

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

While I was on my Vacation, I spent time in Rockport, Corpus Christi and Port Aransas, Texas. Here’s what I found for food:

1. Wintons (Port Aransas) – I’ve been going to this candy shop ever since I was a little kid. Some of the best fudge I’ve ever had.

2. Alby’s (Rockport) – This place specializes in seafood Po-boy Sandwhiches. They have Crab, Oyester, and Shrimp. I had the shrimp. Best shrimp I’ve ever had.

3. Pier 99 (Corpus Christi) – This place is right on the beach and right in front of the LEXINGTON. I really don’t like getting appeitizers, but I’m a sucker for fried mushrooms. They had some of the best I’ve ever had. The service was alright. Not the best. They have a list of rules on their menu. Im a huge fan of making customers understand the way they do things and they can’t always have it their way…..but not here. haha. No seperate checks….not a big deal, but if you ask for one, they’re gonna add 5%. My biggest beef with this restuarant was the lack of….well…beef!!!! They have this neon sign on the outside that says BURGERS. So a few of us wanted burgers, they told us they only make them during lunch……  :-/. I guess that’s what we get for going to a seafood place for burgers. So I got shrimp. Mediocre food, for a moderate price.

That’s all I got. Great vacation. First time in 6 years that I’ve been able to be away from work for 5 days. See ya!

Food again…I think I see a trend going.

Wow. It has been forever since i’ve written a blog. A thousand pardons. :) Well summer is almost over. Is it me or is 2009 going by super fast? Anyway, my last few blogs have been about burgers….well this blog will be about more food. My girlfriend and I are big fans of the show MAN VS. FOOD. One of the episodes is of great food places in Texas. So she and I decided to take a trip to some of the places.

First stop, Salt Lick BBQ. There was about a million people waiting in line (just a guess…I rounded up). As soon as you walk in, you can see the pit where they cook all the meat. They even let people walk into the kitchen to take pictures of it. After 45 minutes, we got our table. We ordered and about 5 minutes later, they brought us our food. I started to think that maybe they had all the food ready and it wont be fresh. I was wrong. Now, my father and grandfather have made the best BBQ I’ve ever had. No where or no one has ever come close. Until now. It was the best plate of BBQ Ive ever had. No joke. It was fresh, hot and amazing. I can die now. haha. I cant even put into words how good it was. The ribs were my favorite thing on the plate. The meat comes right off the bone. No problem.  You need to go eat there at least once in your life.

Next stop, Round Rock Donuts. We let the cashier know it was our first time there…..he gave us free hot donuts. They are amazing. Best donut Ive ever had. They also have a donut called the “Texas Donut”….its bigger than my head. It was equally amazing.

Now for some San Antonio food updates.

Scuzzi’s Italian Grill – Amazing food. Best Italian food I’ve ever had. This place is a little on the expensive side, but it is worth it.

Big’z Burger Joint – I’ve been trying to eat at this place for awhile now. Dreams come true. Best burger I’ve ever had. Sorrry Chris Madrids…this place has won my heart…and my stomach.

We’ll I guess thats it for me. Im thinking about making my blog about great eating places. hmm…sounds good to me!! haha. Enjoy the rest of your summer friends.
