We are continuously looking for ways to improve things here at Milliamp, like our infamous laser pointers, and recently focused our attention to the telephone greeting that people first hear when they call in to us.
We get a lot of phone calls each day – a LOT (just ask Marian).
Therefore, we wanted to make our greeting simplier and to the point, and help people get to the correct department quickly and painlessly. We also added a quick shout-out in our greeting to the iPad repairs that we will be offering very soon to the masses.
Curious and don’t want to call in to hear it? Take a listen here:
New iPhone Repair Greeting
Speaking of iPad repair shout-outs, we also recently updated the signature line on our emails, to help spread the word that we have yet another Apple device to add to our list of devices that we can repair here at Milliamp.

iPad Repairs Signature Line
Have a great Friday, safe weekend, and let us know when you are ready to get your iPod or iPhone fixed!!

First Looks: iPad's Internal Metal Frame
www.ipad-repair.com
Photographs of the iPad’s Internal Frame have been widely circulated on the internet, but no one has really taken the time to closely examine these pictures…until now.
Follow the musings of our iPod and iPhone (and soon to be iPad) -fixing technicians as we pour over every photographic-inch of the internal frame that will allegedly be inside Apple’s iPad. We will give you our thoughts on iPad design and functionality at our new IPAD Repair website. This website will eventually contain everything related to this amazing new device, as well as photographs of the new iPad parts that surface between now and iPad Launch Day.
When you are done reading about our conclusions on the internal iPad frame, head back to this specific blog entry to post your comments.

A co-worker pointed out to me yesterday, shortly after Apple’s big announcement that, when you do a Google search for ‘iPad Repair’, there are practically no search results, to the point that Google suggests “Did you mean ‘ipod repair’?”:

Search Results on Google for 'ipad repair' are Just Brewing
I found this quite funny, and it got me wondering at what point does Google feel that there are enough search results to justify NOT showing suggested alternatives. Then, I found myself thinking about the post I did a while back on Google’s search engine the way it was back in 2007- note the paltry search results for ‘ipod’ back then – incredible compared to today’s results!
Well, it will not be long before clever iPad repair sites start showing up in the search engines, and can offer super iPad repairs to those who need it most.

We have had lot of devices hit the doors here at milliamp.com, and our technicians have stood up to deal with the flood. Here are some of them hard at work, installing new screens in broken first, second, and third generation iPod touch (or is it touches? That just does not sound right…), soldering in new batteries covered for ten year in Apple’s iPhone 3G, iPhone 3G, and the first iPhone 2G, changing the glass out of 4th and 5th generation iPod nanos, as well as a myriad of other repairs on earlier generations of the iPod nano, 5th Generation iPod Video, iPod classic Sixth Generation, and even some of the more obscure models like the iPod mini.

Working Hard So You Don't Have To
In fact, our technicians have even been coming in after hours, oftentimes late into the night, to help us get caught up. On the flip side, we need an army of customer service representatives, shippers, and receivers to keep the devices flowing in and out of our shop.
P.S. And if anyone can explain why Ryan is wearing a green towel on his head, please fill me in. Enter the coupon code ‘greentowel’ during checkout on milliamp.com and receive 15 percent off your order total – this week only!!

We have the most knowledgeable customer service representatives in the industry. A lot of the other iPhone repair companies will transfer technical calls to their technicians, but our CSR’s are very knowledgeable when it comes to Apple’s IPOD and IPHONE – just give us a call at 1-800-809-8133 and find out for yourself!

New Video to Show Repair Process for Apple's IPHONE Hits Site
This is has been on my to-do list for months, and we finally took the time to knock it out:
Showing (in this case, an iPhone) being delivered, the package being opened by our Receiving Department, the device moving into our Repair Department, getting evaluated, a Customer Service representative speaking with the customer about the evaluation findings and getting the approval to complete the repairs, parts getting pulled, a technician repairing the device, the iPhone being tested out in Quality Control, and then finally the device being packaged up and shipped out.
The only thing missing is the event that caused the damage in the first place and the happy look on our customers face when the get their newly-repaired iPod or iPhone back from us.
While this process normally takes several days, we were able to boil it down into a two minute video, and it’s a really effective way to show how the iPod repair process works:
Hey, and it also gave us a chance to showcase some of the hard-working people that we have over here working for us!
We still have the video in an editable mode – anything else that we should include that will be helpful for our great customers? And no bashing the background music, alright?!!

Cameras Ready to Capture the Apple Repairing Action
Recording the repair process and making it available on-line has been a goal of mine for at least the last year and a half. There is only so much one can write on a web page to explain the process – heck, we even created a
really slick graphic to help explain it to folks, but I think a much more effective way to demonstrate it to a customer is to video record it (not video
tape it, as some of the younger bucks on staff have oft-corrected me).
Well, we have the chance to record a typical repair – an iPhone 3G – heading into us for an evaluation, courtesy of our friends at BuyMeAniPhone, this really neat site that showcases iPhone reviews and news stories.
From the sound of it, the device has a cracked backplate and a wonky volume control switch. It’s being sent in to us for one of our fantastic iPhone repair evaluation services, where it will be inspected by one of our experienced iPhone technicians, who will then identify all of the issues outside and inside the device. It’s due to arrive tomorrow, and we will have our video cameras ready to capture its’ arrive, receipt, evaluation, repair, testing, and finally, shipping.
The fellas on the receiving end will then record the device getting received, unwrapped, and working a few days from now, so visit us again soon for the footage!

I recently watched an episode of Mythbusters about the typical items people carry on themselves that are bullet proof. Some of the items were a belt buckle, an officer’s badge, and pizza. Unfortunately, an iPod is not bullet proof, but we can probably fix it if it ever gets shot!
This week’s App Pik by Jared is: Mission Control Lite by the game creators

It’s free of course and it’s only a sample version, but even this sample is tons of fun. You have to land these space ships in a space pod before they run out of fuel or get shot down by an alien space craft. Be careful not to crash into others or on the ground. You can attack the alien space craft too. It’s similar to another app of a traffic controller for an airport, but Mission Control is better! I give this app 5 out of 5.

Can This Cart Help Reduce Lines for Walk-In Customers at milliamp.com?
The walk-in area of milliamp.com is getting a bit crowded these days, thanks to the constant referrals from the local Apple and AT&T Stores, plus the kind folks that just happen to be driving by and see our signs. We have a window for meeting and greeting customers, but i hate to see folks wait, probably even more than they hate waiting. So since the window is being blocked by order taking, i thought it might be cool to have a little portable cart – called a spider cart in the industry vernacular apparently – with a wireless laptop on it so that we can take orders from people that are standing in line. It’s just in the idea phase right now – but might just become a fixture of our walk-in area in the near future to better serve our
iPod and iPhone breaking customers.

Want to know where the best place on Earth is to work at? It’s at Milliamp of course. The owner, our wonderful boss, took everyone out to go bowling. A majority of us have been working at least 13 days straight or more. It was time for a little break. Maybe a bowling league should be started. Anthony suggested a Nintendo Wii bowling league.
Today, Sunday, is also the first day off I have had in some time. Well, almost all day off. I had a few shipping documents to work on. I wish I had more time off, but I need to get everyone’s orders shipped out this coming Monday. At least we are all almost caught up in every department. It just keeps getting busier everyday. That’s a good thing though.
This week’s App Pik by Jared is: Action Bowling Free by Kronos
This app is free and fun for some quick bowling on the go. It’s kind of like the Nintendo Wii Sports bowling, but does not even come close. The fact that you mimic throwing the bowling ball with your iPhone worries me a little. You can use your finger to swipe the ball into the pins, but there is a slight time delay. Also, the app doesn’t always work when it is first turned on. There’s a note stating that when turing the app on and it does not load, you need to reset your device and reopen the app. Yes, it’s a free app, but it makes me wonder if this problems persists with the paid app. If you end up throwing your device and breaking it, just send it to us and we’ll fix it. I give this app 4 out of 5.

I recently stumbled upon an app that allows you to track a package, or multiple packages, from UPS, USPS, FedEx, & DHL. Unfortunately, if your iPhone or iPod Touch is already in our shop being repaired, you’ll have to stick with that paperweight of a laptop or PC and track your package the old fashion way. It’s called Package Tracker Lite. This app is simple and free! Just select the carrier and enter the tracking info and you can keep tabs on your package from your iPhone or iPod Touch. It will also keep a list of the recent tracking info you have entered, so you won’t have to keep retyping it all the time. I have tried all carriers except for DHL to keep tabs on packages and so far I’m pretty impressed. Just type “package tracker lite” in the search field of your app store on your iPhone or iPod Touch to get this convenient app.
Tracker Lite by Ethan Productions

I give this app 5 out of 5.

I’ve seen
a version of this product before as a tripod for a digital camera, but it wasn’t Gorilla and it wasn’
t as flexible. This seems a lot better and it’s not just for an iPod or iPhone. On my last vacation, I was on a flight that lasted almost 3 hours and holding my iPhone up got tiresome real quick. Eventually, I rigged it up to the seat in front of me using the In-Flight Magazine, the fold down tray, and a napkin. It could even stay up during class-four turbulence. It would have been nice to have a Gorilla for that flight.
This week’s App Pik by Jared is: Traffic Info

It has some good and bad reviews, but it has come in handy for me most of the time. When I’m stuck in traffic that shouldn’t exist on a normal day, I turn to this free app to see what’s going on. Most of the time, it will bring up all the traffic reports/incidents and how long until it will be before it is removed from the scene. I say it works most of the time because I think the incidents have to be reported and from there it’s updated to the app. I use it so I can determine if I need to take an alternate route or not and use it as proof to my boss when I’m late for work! I give this app 5 out of 5.

I was dropping off all the online orders and outbound device returns at the local post office and noticed a wad of cash on the ground on my way out. I made a quick move and picked it up and walked out. For a split second, ok…a few seconds, I contemplated
on just taking it and leaving. My good conscience told me to count it and go back inside to inquire if someone could claim it. It turns out it was $60 of a wad! So, I went back inside and got every one’s attention in line and asked if they lost a wad of cash. The majority shook their heads no and of course someone trying to be clever asked, “how much”, but I was prepared. I said, ” Nice try pal.” No takers were going to claim this jackpot of mine until an old lady noticed a young man walking through the door and stated, “He just came back in from outside. Why don’t you ask him if it belongs to him?” So, I asked and he was a little caught off guard because the whole post office line was eyeing him down. He quickly checked his pocket and said, ” Yeah, I’m missing like $60.” Either he’s a good guesser or it really was his. I gave him back the whole wad of cash and as I walked out I could hear the old lady say, “Oh, well…isn’t that nice of him.” Kind of made me feel good aboot myself. When I got back to Milliamp, I told one of my co-workers and she cursed me out. She would have kept it and run off to never look back. I said, “I’m a nice guy.” But deep down, I really wanted to take off with that money. That would’ve been the second largest amount of cash I’ve found. The most I have ever found was $86 at the airport in the parking lot. Kind of hard to ask around for its owner there. Sucka!
This week’s App Pik by Jared is Flixter.

This app is free and it has a wide variety of features. I’ll just name the important ones. You can get all the theaters in your city and arrage them in your favorites to access them quicker. You can look up showtimes in most cities. You can rate movies. You can watch trailers and search for them, even if there 20 years old. Find out when a movies is coming out as well as a release date for DVD’s. I totally recomend this app if you are a frequent movie goer. I give this app a 5 out of 5.

This is what’s next to come in the delivery system since we already send and receive devices from all over the world.
Here’s the link in case it doesn’t play for you above: Galactic Mail
This week’s App Pik by Jared is: Unblock Me by Kurakorn Chimkool

It’s a nice little brain teaser and this version is free. It has 400 plus levels and each one has the same task. You have to get the red block to exit the hole in the border, but there are other blocks in the way that you have to maneuver around to clear a path for the red block. Don’t give up! Sometimes the solution is so easy, it’s right in front of you the whole time. You can always reset the board if you make a mess with all the blocks. I give this simple brain teaser app 5 out of 5.

If you haven’t already, I would suggest getting the 3.0 update for your iPhone. Some of the new features included are: cut/copy/paste, spotlight search, a voice/text recorder app, and landscape typing.
The cut/copy/paste feature is awesome. There have been numerous times when I have needed to copy text and paste it somewhere else instead of retyping it. This has been long overdue.
The spotlight search is a cool new feature. While on the home page of your iPhone, slide to the left one more time and a keyboard will pop up awaiting input. Start typing a name of something and it will bring up all the related information, ie: Jake will bring up his contact info, email messages, calendar info, Facebook responses, etc. This is helpful for those of you who have maxed out, or nearly maxed out, your 148 app storage. Searching for them can be a pain, but the spotlight search eliminates that.
There have been apps already created to voice record your memos, but Apple finally made one that is permanent for the iPhone. I rarely use mine, but it has come in handy for when I don’t want to type out what I have to say to remind myself.
The landscape typing for texting/e-mailing is cool, but it takes too long to realize you have turned the iPhone and then it shrinks the screen so that you can only see one line of the previous text message. I forget that it has that feature and I have already mastered portrait typing. Now, for e-mailing, it comes in handy! So, get rid of that app you have that allowed you to landscape type and free up some space.
There is another feature to wipe out your iPhone when it’s lost, but that requires MobileMe and I have not yet utilized that program. So, if anyone out there has, would you mind commenting and letting others know if it’s effective or not?
This week’s App Pik by Jared is: Melodis Dialer by Melodis.

This app is free and allows you to say a person’s name and call them. WAIT! It gets better. You can say, “Call John” and it will auto dial John. What if John has a mobile, home, and work number? Then you say, “Call John mobile.” What if you have two Johns? Then you would say, “Call John Johnson mobile.” What if you have two John Johsons? First off, that’s just way too coincidental. Second, figure out a nickname. You can also press the little plus symbol when you bring up a contact name and it will display all of their contact info, ie: full name, e-mail address, physical address, etc. A lot of people have complained that it takes too long to load up, which isn’t true. It’s barely 2 seconds, and it would probably take longer to search through your contacts anyways. In fact, I know it does!
Here’s a cool and random Sci-Fi video that I found and recommend that you watch it. It’s called Oceansize.
Free up some space! Now is a good time to go through all your apps on your iPhone and remove the one’s you rarely or never use.

Placards for Picture Taking Tests Getting Made
As part of our ongoing efforts to improve the internal testing of devices that come in to us for repairs, we are in the midst of implementing another test for iPhones and iPhone 3G: taking a picture right after the device is received, and then again during the post-repair/assembly testing stage.
It is this extra level of attention to detail, I believe, that sets us apart from our competitors in the iPhone and iPod repair arena.
And don’t worry – we are not going to start taking photos of ourselves! That might just scare a few people!!
(You might even remember a picture that some apparently took of an assembly line worker from an iPhone as it was getting manufactured – it caused a brief stir and even a glimpse of internet stardom for the young woman. No, we are not after that kind of fame – just want to test out the camera and get the phone moved quickly onto the next step.)
Getting printed right now are placards that will be placed in the most-appropriate locations throughout our shop (as shown in this image here) so that we can check the functionality of the camera inside every iPhone and iPhone 3G that we repair or touch without slowing down the process.
Some people say that the 3rd Generation iPod touch might even have a camera (something the first and second generation iPod touch do not have), and if that is the case, we will be able to use these same placards for that device , and any other new creations Apple comes out with that has a built-in camer, as well.

Picture taken from http://www.mobilewhack.com/iphone-4g-concept/
I have to say, i think this new concept looks really cool, and i might end up buying one. However on a business note, i am not fond of the fact they are thinking of placing a removable battery on the back. That will probably close the door for us at Milliamp as far as battery replacements are concerned for this concept. We will still have the lcd and board replacements as well as headphone jacks and a few others. The main thing that stands out again is the frame and case is going to be made out of TITANIUM ? This will lead to less broken phones due to impact ” cry for Milliamp “, for the consumers this is great and will lead to phones lasting longer and having outlasting lifespans.
When i look at the features i am over-joyed that there will be that ichat camera on the front and the fact the camera is 3.2 megapixels is awesome. It looks like the sizes are going to be the standard 8 – 16 – and 32 MB capacities.
However this is just a concept and the only thing we can do is watch and wait for Apple.
