Howdy!

Being in the iPhone and iPod (and soon to be iPad!) repair biz, you get to see some really awful stuff come through the doors. Seriously, screens that are completely demolished, nanos that are so bent that they form right angles or even first gen iPhones missing their silver backplates entirely. It’s enough to make a grown nerd cry! It never ceases me amaze me how messed up this little electronic can get! It’s nuts. No matter, though, because our repair technicians give each and every device a thorough evaluation before we have to call the time of death. We don’t judge based on how ugly its mug is–everyone gets an equal chance.

Speaking of busted devices, there does seem to be a pattern of people not in the know that their device can be fixed–it never fails! I’ll be roaming about San Antonio and I’ll see someone carefully trying to maneuver around the shards of glass from their iPhone. Or, I’ll see a friend with an iPod video that sounds like it doubles as a trash compactor. I start to wonder if people know that they can get ‘em fixed or maybe it’s just the economics of the matter. Either way, we like to spread the word about our great repair solutions with great prices to match. Just give us a call and we’ll see if we can get you a ballpark price for those more ambiguous repairs! We have real AND knowledgeable people on the receiving end of your inquiry. We’re all happy to help!

Well, I know that there have been plenty of accidents that we’ve fixed, but truth be told, sometimes we like to keep a small collection of old parts to remember the worst of the worst. I’m starting to think we should make some kind of art out of it. Well, I [carefully] dug around and found the nastiest digitizers. I don’t remember all the backstories, but I rememeber something about a tank, a nailgun and maybe even a firetruck…Anyways, after nearly cutting my little fingers up, I got this shot:

Keep those phones safe!

“WRITERS BLOCK – A usually temporary psychological inability to begin or continue work on a piece of writing.”

Yep. Thats what I have. Big Time. It isnt very temporary though. Which isnt very good considering I have 4 songs that I need to finish writing. Not to mention this blog. :-/ So what causes our minds to go blank?! Im assuming its the lack of inspiration. Ive been so busy with fixing/evaluating your ipod/iphone, that I havent been able to do anything cool. WAIT!!!!

Inspiration has hit me. So awhile back I saw this movie with Mel Gibson, “the edge of darkness”. I think thats what it’s called. Anyways, the whole thing was about revenge. Trying to get someone back for pain that they have caused you. For years now, ive been wanting to write a song about revenge, but ive never had that feeling. Sure ive been mad at people, but ive never wanted to cause harm to anyone. Then I got some inspiration. 3 weeks after christmas, my house was broken into. DVDs, iPods, Jewlery, and my brothers brand new Playstion 3 were stolen. Ive never felt soooo much anger before. I wanted these people to feel the pain that they caused my family. Then I saw that movie. The whole time I was like, “yea!”. haha, but then I realized, causing the bad guys pain wasnt going to bring back his daughter. (sorry if I ruined the movie there) So as the movie was coming to an end, I got this little melody in my head. Then I started putting some lyrics to it. I kept thinking, ” i have to get home to my guitar, or else im gonna lose this.” Then I remembered that I have the best tool for music on the go……my iPHONE!!! As im walking out of the theater I pulled out my phone, went into the voice notes app and sang the lyrics to the melody I came up with. As soon as I got home, I went straight to my guitar and started writing the song. “Revenge”. Its probably my favorite song that i’ve written. Still needs a little more work though.

Im sorry this blog went a little all over the place….but thats something I like. Spontaneous writing. I never know what Im gonna write till my fingers hit the keys.

Well thats it for me folks. Spring Break starts next week, please be safe.

(I dont know if I need to do this, but im not gonna take any chances)

I found the definition on this site: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/writer%27s+block

You see I had this tooth that was bothering me and it was sending a blinding sharp pain all through the right side of my face, which in hand made me a bit cranky and somewhat short on patience. This being said I am sorry, but now I am all better and back to my normal self again. I am normally not the type of person to do a shout out in a blog but I cannot control myself this time. This shout out goes to B.D Tiner,DDS,MD and his AWESOME CREW @ Alamo maxillofacial Surgical Associates, P.A. ( http://www.alamomaxillofacial.com) this particular office is located at 4499 Medical Drive, suite 190. I called and they said they could see me the same day within the hour, so I drove straight over there going about 80 miles an hour with one eye closed to contain the pain (Mom & Dad if you’re reading this, that part about the reckless driving was a joke. However if they’re not reading this, then I am so serious) When i got to the office i was treated like a king, everyone was soo nice to me. They had me sit on this chair that was like one you would find in a dentist office but to me it felt like a throne. The whole procedure took about 30mins or so and I didn’t feel an ounce of pain. To everyone I was mean to before I had my tooth pulled…I am incredibly sorry. And to everyone I was mean to after I had my tooth pulled…. You deserved it j/k maybe not. And to B.D Tiner,DDS,MD and his AWESOME CREW @ Alamo maxillofacial Surgical Associates, P.A. I say THANK YOU for treating me so kindly and reinventing the phrase “It’s like pulling teeth” I would say it’s changed to “It’s like watching a Superbowl commercial” yeah you want to get back to the game but you don’t mind the wait. Thank you again

Kyn Sparks Blows the Follow-Through with iGarageFloor.com

When we shelled out big bucks for our stunning new flooring at our iPhone and iPod (and soon to be iPad repair shop), we thought it would be durable and last the test of time. But the iGarageFloor.com (aka PolymerGarage.com) flooring couldn’t hold up to a simple office chair with plastic wheels, as evidenced by this video:

Click here to view the embedded video.

We can understand it when unexpected things happen – heck, we see it in our business every once in a while – a part fails suddenly and a customer will call us on it. But we stand up and fix the issue. Kyn Sparks, despite numerous attempts to get him to fix the worn-out section of flooring with a new polymer coating, has ignored several attempts to resolve the situation.

This demonstrates to me that iGarageFloor.com (or now known as PolymerGarage.com) is more concerned about scoring new jobs than taking care of their previous customers. The importance of follow-through has apparently been lost on Kyn Sparks, and that’s a sad thing, as I believe taking care of your existing customer base is equally if not more important that efforts to find new customers.

So if you are hunting around for a new polymer garage floor in San Antonio, make sure that the company you select will be there before, during, and especially after to job is complete. If you don’t, you might just have a constant reminder staring you in the face that some people just don’t care.

As most of you know spring break for most college students will be next week. I personally never have had a true spring break. I’ve always been tied up with baseball games or tournaments. So this being my last semester in college and my baseball eligibility up I have go to see what is like to be just a regular college student. I am truly excited for spring break as this will be my first. I have taken a week off from my part time job here at Milliamp so that I am able to enjoy what little time I have left to be kid. I will be starting my spring break by traveling back home to midland, tx to see my family and meet up with some my friends as they arrive home from their respected schools. After a few days with our families we will be traveling back to San Antonio to celebrate St. Patrick’s day. We will then continue our journey to South Padre Island to meet up with some other of our friends as well for Texas Weekend to enjoy the last few days of not only our spring break but also our time together as college students.

Hello everyone! I hope y’all are all having a spectacular day So last week I (begrudgingly of course) took off a few days from lovely Milliamp and flew to New Mexico to go snowboarding!!! It’s funny, the town i was going to (Clovis/Portales) is sooo infinitely tiny that I had to land in Lubbock, because that was the closest airport to the town. A 1.5 hour drive later, I immediately regretted my decision of coming as I arrived in the town with all of its podunk-glory… just kidding! My friend’s in the Air Force and based in Clovis, in case you were wondering why I would subject myself to this torture. Apparently they only allowed MTV into the town 3 years ago!! I mean, it is super-trashy and unnecessary, but still!! So my friend is a pretty adept snowboarder, and he was pretty confident that I’d be pretty good (*scoff*). I proved him wrong!! haha We went to Sipapu which is a fairly small mountain, thank God. It took me two arduous hours of self-hatred to get me down that mountain the first time!! I was seriously thinking about quitting, and I felt bad because my frustration makes me say not-so-nice things to my assisting friend! Anyways, after a stiff drink (jk) and a delicious turkey sandwich I attempted a second journey of torture. It went so much better! Only took me like 30 minutes! haha (It takes a ‘normal’ person about 8min, just to give you perspective). It was a lot of fun once I got started, although, I was fairly apprehensive once I started gaining momentum. My God, my body HATED me the next day.. it was so painful to move ANYTHING. My arms were super sore from all of my fun accidental snow-rompings and attempts to stand up on the board. All in all, it was a great trip! I would definitely go again, and hopefully not be such a pansy I would post some pictures, but I haven’t uploaded them off my camera yet! Sorry to disappoint all of you eager readers, haha. In other news, I found out that I got accepted to the Army-Baylor doctoral program for Physical Therapy! yeyah! Such a stress relief to find out I’ve actually been accepted somewhere!! I’m really excited because I’ve been planning on doing Physical Therapy since i was like 15? I’m ready to start the next chapter in my life and to have a whole slew of new experiences! Well that’s all the jabbering for today, I’ll torture y’all again some other time.

Seems there is going to be a big cell phone tower (complete with all the noisy machinery needed to install and maintain the structure) going up in New Territory, presumably the improve the wireless coverage in the area.

The big point of contention from the residents in New Territory, aside from the honking huge tower to be placed in their backyards, is the fact that the residents themselves were not told about the plans to install the cell phone tower in the first place.

This is obviously a dynamic, ever-developing story, so to keep up with the news, head to StopTheCellTower.com for all the details.

Have you ever had that feeling of nostalgia? Your walking to a familiar place from your childhood, it could be the ice cream parlor or the old playground you used to wreak havoc at, or a tree that may look familiar of ones you climbed in your day? Well I’ve thought a lot about my childhood these past couple of days and I remember being a super tomboy awaiting the new FILAS to come out. I loved the show gullah gullah island and Are you afraid of the dark, now I look at my fav show and its Law and Order : SVU (very different). Geez, I wish I could go back to those goodburger, all that, Kenan and Kel times. Yes I am a product of the 90’s and proud of it! I remember the summers playing in the little plastic pool with the fish painted on the side eating an ice cream sandwich. I used to beg my mother to buy me shoes that light up and find me the latest and greatest my little pony and beanie baby. Unlike the typical girl my whole wardrobe was teenage mutant ninja turtles, and my bed sheets/room all barney. Everything was easy back then, I mean the biggest game console back then was Nintendo and I was the unfortunate kid in school to not have a game boy. Children don’t understand how great technology has become. Things were more authentic back then, not as cookie cutter as they are now, all in all I miss those times but enjoy these times growing up.

P.S. I still wish I was Donatello and had the moves like him.

So there is this class that I am taking at the University of Texas at San Antonio that is very interesting. Being a kinesiology major I am very intrested in anatomy and physiology of the human body. I am not trying to hate on my professor because he is an excellent teacher, but I believe he is going to make everyone in our class start having eating disorders. Seriously, he preaches about what you should and should not eat, then at the very end always says, but the best thing to do is not eat at all. I seriously leave the class and dont want to eat for extened amounts of hours. Which in my case is unheard of, because as you noticed before I love to eat (superbowl food blog). Another interesting thing kinesiology related I got to do is sit in a Bod Pod pictured below. It is really cool, it takes measurements throuch air pressure of your body compostion/body fat. Very nifty device, I felt like I was going to be shot out of a space ship into outer space. Then I got out and saw my results…uh yah, anyways how about baseball season. I am pretty excited, usually I am not into baseball as much as football or basketball, but I just joined a fantasy baseball team and will win! It what I do. Well I guess I am going to go smell some food for lunch…Thanks Professor. Go Astros!!!

So, I’ve been working in customer service, in various incarnations, for nearly 6 years now and i’ve learned a thing or two about how customer complaints can and should be handled. Having been “behind the counter” for so long, I’ve haven’t had to utilize the customer service skills of businesses I patronize, until this weekend.

My girlfriend, Chelsea, was moving into a new apartment and wanted to use movers, but do it on the cheap and stay local, so she did some googling and some research and came up with a company she thought would fit her needs, SA Moving Guy. She called the company and described the move and was quoted $170, total, for the move. So, satisfied with the quote, she booked the movers for a Friday.

Friday rolls around and we have several phone conversations with the movers about how their running behind, etc etc. The storage space which would need to be packed up and moved, closed at 9, the mover’s weren’t able to even make their way to the space until 8:30. All of this after anticipating their arrival around 3-4pm. We grudgingly accept to reschedule for the next day.

The movers arrive on time and begin to load up the space. Over an hour and a half later they finally arrive at the apartment and begin to unload. Just before they finish, I decide to call their office manager to arrange for some sort of compensation for the day we wasted waiting on them.

I called the office manager to try and work out payment and some sort of compensation for our time and was told we would be charged MORE than we were quoted and that he could only authorize a waiver of their “arrival fee” as they did not arrive when they said they would, if I wanted more of a discount, I would have to call the owner Monday. Luckily, the movers were pretty good with their customer service skills and got the owner on the phone for me. The owner, while apologetic, was as insincere about it as is humanly possible, he justified their lateness with saying “things happen” and told me that he could not compensate me any further for our loss of time. After an arduous 5 minute discussion with the man, he discounted our moving rate and we ended our call. Our miserable experience with the company was finally coming to an end. We paid and tipped the movers and they went on their way.

The lack of enthusiastic and adequate customer service was an excellent reminder of how important that job is, especially when it has to do with personal goods left in the charge of strangers. I’m proud to say that I am a customer service representative for a company that does have enthusiastic customer service and does value its customers. I can see how much proper customer service makes a difference in the customer/client relationship and what a benefit that brings customers.

Here at Milliamp, we strive to exceed every single customer’s expectations. From evaluations, to specified repairs, to battery kits, we aim to make our customer’s experience with our products and services positive and pleasant and we do this through excellent communication, support, and a cheerful attitude.
