Are Twitter Names the Next Gold Rush?

Twitter Gold Rush of 2009

Twitter Gold Rush of 2009

Anyone that has tried to register a domain name knows that all the good names are taken (I personally own ‘theshortestfuckingdomainnamethatwasstillavailable.com’, but that is a story for another blog post).

Having a good domain name is important for brand recognition and simply helping people remember the name of your business. With the rise in popularity (which some would argue may be short-lived) of Twitter, people and companies alike are rushing to register on this social site.

We had the good fortune to locate a woman who had registered ‘milliamp’ on Twitter, but no longer used the account. Turns out, she picked the name after her dog, which is named milliampere (“half chichuachua, half poodle, all energy, low wattage”). Pretty clever name for a dog, if you ask me (apparently, her husband is an instrumentation controls engineer)!

It took some back and forth, but we were finally able to obtain access to the ‘milliamp’ twitter account, so keep an eye out from some sharp milliamp tweets real soon.
