Reseller Ratings milliamp
by Anthony Magnabosco on May 7, 2009
Reseller Ratings was largely unknown to ipod juice loving friends at Milliamp LTD. It apparently is a site that lets customers with a valid order number make a comment about any vendor that did business with. ResellerRatings.com Milliamp ipodjuice has a very interesting business model, in that a merchant cannot see the order number of a customer that makes a post on their site OR respond to any compliment (or complaint) until they pay money to register for their site. This is a little deceptive to me, and forces merchants to have to pay up in order to publicly thank a customer who posted nice comments (or respond to a criticism). I have never quite seen such a business model before this one at Reseller Rating ipodjuice milliamp before, and it calls into question their whole intent for sponsoring the site in the first place. It would be interesting if the model were flipped so that merchants like milliamp or ipodjuice.com could make a post on Reseller Ratings about a great (or bad!) customer experience and then the individual would have to pay a monthly fee to respond to the post. On the whole, I think Reseller Rating.com has good intentions, i just think in their quest to provide a sounding board for the general public, they let their desire for cash flow cloud their judgement when it comes to allowing merchants to particpate in the discussion. What do you think about Reseller Ratings.com and milliamp or ipod juice when it comes to leaving feeback and suggestions for improvement? Do you think a simple letter to the attention of the CEO or owner would be more effective in getting a resolution?

I am the CEO of ResellerRatings. Some points:
1) ResellerRatings launched in 1995. For 10 years, it was free for merchants to contact customers and post public replies. We are a business with a staff and with costs. It became necessary to charge merchants for these services, to cover our basic cost of doing business. However, our fees are extremely reasonable, starting at only $30/month. Many merchants generate thousands or tens of thousands of dollars of monthly revenue thanks to our site, they use our site as a marketing tool, they contact reviewers to satisfy any issues (and consequently, their rating, and their sales, go up). We’re providing a service worth more than $30/month.
2) It’s free to be listed at ResellerRatings, free to use our exit survey to generate reviews at the point of sale, free to get email alerts, free to flag reviews for violations in our terms of use.
3) Our SEO is outstanding. People searching google for ipod juice find your reviews page on page 1. It would seem that you’d want to work to resolve customer feedback and given that it costs money for us to operate our site and that we aren’t a charity, you should expect some fee for this service if you want to participate.
All excellent points, Scott. You have a great business and it has been around for a while. I can certainly understand the need to evolve the business model it grows to cover expenses – I have had to do the exact same thing as our iPod and iPhone repair business has expanded over a short period of time. It is obvious by your post (and the speed with which you responded) that you really care about your business and have a vested interest in its’ success. Keep up the great work.
