A return to our favorite fighting game.

by Daniel on March 13, 2010

For quite some time now there has been a certain arcade fighting game that has stayed off the radar for a number of years. While the market was being dominated by Tekken, Dead or Alive, Mortal Kombat, or possibly Soulcalibur. There has been one game that did not officially get a sequal. The game i am talking about is Street Fighter. i can still remember the days of waking up early, blowing into a dusty cartridge and turning on the Super Nintendo. Selecting my favorite character Ryu(not a big suprise there) and beating down a guy from the army with a strange hair cut, to a weird green guy that somehow channeled electricity through his body. Just recently they released Street Fighter IV(4). Now me as a fan rejoiced at this but sadly i have not yet been able to play this. Untill a few days ago. I had been reading that Capcom was in the works of an iPhone version of the game, and being an owner of the iPhone, i couldnt help but smile. The iPhone app was released and for a sum of $9.99, Street Figher IV can be yours. At first i was skeptical about this game. At first i was worried about the graphics(lets face it the iPhone 3G graphics do not stand up to the 3GS graphics) but seeing screenshots made me a believer. Next up were the controls. Now i was NEVER good at pulling off the complicated combos in the game with a regular playstation controller, how was i going to pull it off with tapping my thumbs on glass? Well i can tell you right now im eating my words. Everything is of course mapped to the bottom left and right corners of the screen leaving space to see the action. There are also a few new features to the game but those are things you need to look up for yourself. Now possibly the only two let downs i have to this game is the lack of Wi-Fi fighting. The only way to fight anyone else is over Bluetooth which immediately eliminates any possibility of online leader boards and tournaments. Secondly, the number of players. There are only 8 characters but reall 7 since Ryu/Ken are mostly the same guy, but with a different character model. Our favorites Chun Li, M. Bison, Dhalsim, and Blanka return but sadly no sumo guy(his name escapes me at the moment) or any other amazing character we have learned to love. Well i think thats enough talking about this amazing game. Again, $9.99 will get you into this game, its a fun game to quickly pick up and beat a few people up when you are feeling bored or frustrated.
