The following are typical comments that we have received from customers who have required repairs on their 4th Generation Apple iPod. They may not make a whole lot of sense in this current context, but are listed here to give you an idea of the kinds of repairs that we offer for this model.
The battery was recently replaced and still shows up as "extremely low battery" when plugged in. Does not start up past that screen even after being charged for a day... Could it be hard drive problems? Batteries on both ipods run only 15-30 minutes. I am returning a battery that I bought because I ordered the wrong one. If possible please let me know when the battery ships. I need to have it by January 26th in order to install it prior to leaving on a trip. The I-Pod turns on but has a sad face inside a small i-pod. Everything seems and is cool, Just need the battery and would like a CD backup of all my songs, including what I purchased from the itunes store. SAD FACE WITH ! COMES ON. Thats the only screen that comes up. Wont connect to PC or to wall adapter.
Getting "This accessory was not made to work with iPhone" error. Also, when iPod is powered off, it will power back on by itself. Tried restoring. Appears port has a short. The 4th gen ipod charging connector is damaged which is visible if looking at the port. MY IPOD FELL OFF THE ROOF OF MY CAR AND IS CURRENTLY IN MULTIPLE PIECES. I DONT NEED A REPAIR BUT I WANT ALL MY MUSIC TO BE RECOVERED AND DOWNLOADED TO DISCS EASILY ENOUGH FOR ME TO UPLOAD ALL MY MUSIC TO MY COMPUTER I HAVE YEARS OF MUSIC ON THE DEVICE THAT HAS OUTLIVED ATLEAST 2 LAPTOPS. Something is wrong with fourth generation ipod screen if it can be fixed please call to let them know. replace lcd and do data backup replace fp and bp and battery. No passcode just do data backup no other repairs needed. install new LCD and DIGI and perform a COMPLETE data backup of text messages photographs contacts pictures music etc. Customer will be back on Thursday at 10am to pickup. The ipod no longer powers on and does not charge. I am assuming the battery is dead. The reason for repairing the ipod is because of the data in it. It is important to salvage the data while repairing the ipod. Ipod wont even charge for me anymore. it will turn onto the apple logo then shutoff. I am also sending it in to have the storage backed up on it. My iPod sat idle for a long period of time. When I tried to start using it again it did not respond. I tried charging it and connecting it to the computer and iTunes with no success. I replaced the battery and still got no response from the iPod. At this point I'm more concerned with getting my music back than fixing the iPod. If it's fixable that would be a plus. Current battery will not hold charge for more than an hour. Please replace. Thanks. My iPod was not turning off when i wanted to turn it off. Then since maybe last year i think or longer, when i would try to turn it on it when to this one screen that said that not to disconnect while charging when it wasn't even charging. Also from time to time it would freeze on me.
My Ipod fell of my bed and hit the floor. when i picked it up, and try to turn it on, it wouldn't. as i examined my ipod even further, i heard rattling noises coming from inside the ipod. i opened the ipod (with the tools you guys provide to replace ipod batteries) and found two little square pieces rolling around inside it. I taped the two electronic pieces to the back of the Ipod. PLEASE TELL ME YOU COULD FIX IT!!! Thank You,
I have an U2 Ipod that is 4 years old. It froze and was stuck on a screen. It finally went off and I get the sad face sign when I try to reset it. If it is plugged into my computer, I Tunes will not recognize it. It sat like this for several days and I was able to get it back on and I reset it on I tunes and re loaded my music. Several hours later it got stuck again and I can hear a clicking noise inside it. It is now frozen again and I only get the sad face or battery sign. Please help! I know its old but I love it It is my guess that the ipod is only in need of a new battery, but I would rather have one of your technicians taker a look at it. 1. Color iPod from circa 2005 seems not to hold a charge. If partially charged, iPod 4th gen will not power up properly. Battery is an aftermarket unit. 2. Color iPod shows charging icon, but will not play through Sony blaster with iPod cradle. Sony blaster is known to work with 2007 iPod Classic 160. 3. Color iPod will only work when plugged into AC adaptor, in which case power up and all operation are normal. Would be a shame to lost a still-working iPod, especially since the shuttle dial on the 2005 unit works much better than the 2007 unit. Not working, getting 4th generation iPod Sad iPod Icon
my ipod was seating on bose dock for a while when i went to use it it didnt turn on at one point i thought it was the battery but i dont think thats the case, now it only display the apple logo and nothing else.
Won't power up, either on computer or by AC adapter. The Apple 'sad face' hardware icon shows, then unit shuts down. I have an older ipod that after months of nonuse wouldn't take a charge. I ordered a new battery and installed it properly, but unfortunately, while I was installing it, the connector came loose from the green board. The ipod is trying to turn on now, but there is just not enough charge in the battery and I can't get it to take a charge with the broken connector. For a period of time, the ipod would clip the end of some songs. Then it began to freeze up. I did a factory restore, but now it won't completely synch up and load all of the music files. It loads a small portion of the music library and then quits the synching process. Im sending 2 ipods im not sure if i picked the right evaluation class for both ipods. Please notify if data may be lost in repair before repair starts. Also with a qoute for repair. i get a clicking noise and it won't turn on with a fully charged battery. 1) The Ipod takes a charge and will play for about one hour; it does not hold a charge over night, even if it is not used. 2) I have tried to "reset" the Ipod by holding down the menu and select buttons, but nothing happens. 3) I cannot turn the Ipod off, but it will eventually power off by itself if it is left idle with nothing playing. 4) I have followed directions to restore factory settings and it has made no difference to the performance. I bought a battery for the 4th generation ipod and wasn't able to install it so I'm sending it back for you to do. My I pod will not turn on. The support screen shows up with ipod support.com. showing when attempting to turn it on. Prior to this incident the ipod would turn on, but not last long and shut off. The Lcd screen may be cracked also. doesn't start up, battery is good. I'd gotten an error on the Ipod while it was plugged into my car stereo (it was awhile ago, and I'm not sure what the error was). I unplugged it from the stereo and did a restart, and when it finished restarting there were no songs. So I brought it in the house and plugged it into the computer and was going to copy all my songs back to the ipod but decided to do the restart thing through itunes and do a check for updates. When that had finished running it wanted me to plug the ipod into a wall charger to finish the process. I did not have a wall charger at the time so I let it sit until I was able to get one, and plugged it in at that point.. Which did nothing. It still shows an icon saying it needs to be plugged into a wall charger and won't clear past that error no matter what I try doing.
Both IPods could not hold a charge and eventually died. Also, with the 4th Gen. IPod, prior to dying, it would play a song for approximately 5 seconds, then skip to the next song for another 5 seconds, and then skip again...etc. Not more than a week later, it died completely. If possible, I'd like the batteries replaced with the longest lasting battery option. Thank you. Ipod 20gig only works in dock. Also the center area of click wheel "popped" up and no longer presses down to get to secondary menu screen. Only hold a charge for about one song when unattached. gray area of click wheel works. Your screen has my home phone(land line). Battery only
IPod: Charges overnight but does not hold the charge as it should. I ordered your battery replacement and installed it. That went fine but it has the same problem. Seems to charge OK and will play, but if you leave it sitting overnight (not playing) it will be dead the next day. I have no data that I need on either device. It is all backed up. Thanks. My ipod iPod 4th gen needs a new LCD. BATTERY REPLACEMENT + DATA BACKUP. I want to make sure the lcd screen I'm ordering is for the fouth generation IPOD photo. Thanks, *U2 4th generation 20GB ipod click wheel is not working (play button). RETURNING FOR AN INSTALLATION OF NEW BATTERY AND RECYCLING OF OLD. Please hurry....I need my music for DJ parties at Christmas. Thank you! I am sending my 4th generation 60GB ipod in perfect condition. I have not used it for several months and now the battery appears to be completely dead. I have left it plugged in overnight and it will not hold a charge, sometimes it will not turn on at all. replacement for a bad battery It won't power on. You don't have to try and save all the stuff on the hard drive it should be backed up in my iTunes. Thanks. It just doesn't work at all. I've had it 'repaired', but still not working. I will enclose the repair note with my ipod so you can see what they did. It displayed the Contact Customer Service logo- the "sad face." Click wheel ihas been erratic for years, now pretty much dead. I just replaced the battery with the 1200mah from you, no problems. I just need my screen repaired. Everything else is working fine. Thank you
I just bought this off of ebay, they said the battery only stayed charged for 30 min. or so. I don't think there is anything else wrong, but please check for me. Thanks. top head phone jack cuts in and out. The IPOD stopped working, as though it's battery was dead, and could not be charged. I was told that this is a 4th generation Ipod.I bought it "as is"on EBAY. I was under the impression that it was working the last time used. The Ipod fourth gen will not take a charge. I have been unable to turn it on. I would like to find out if it is worth repairing.I would also like to know what type of Ipod it really is. Thanks. wont power up sometimes, bad sound, battery icon, sad face
My iPod Photo has been broken for a while. When I try to turn it on, I get either the unhappy face or the folder icon. Resetting it does not seem to work either. The Nano was a gift given to me. It works fine when plugged into the computer, but as soon as it is unplugged it shuts off and won't turn back on, even though it says it is 'fully charged'. Device will not turn on. Possibly a dead battery. The last time that it was used, it was working fine. The battery may have gotten completely discharged. It is the original battery. We tried all the usual things like resetting but cannot get anything to show up on the screen at all. I cannot hear the hard drive moving. The ipod will not do anything. There's no sign of life. Please call with questions, Thanks! It seems that batteries don't last more than a few months in my iPod. When I replace the battery it only lasts about a month or two and then it starts to freeze. I am able to reboot by flipping the toggle switch and then holding the play and middle button. About a month after that it just goes out at random times and the screen goes black with the little power symbol and it makes the noise like the battery is dying. IPOD charges but never comes on. not sure at this point. It use to have power. Play and pause button does not click (soft click) I suspect that a new battery and LCD screen are needed. The fourth generation IPod screen was blank when attempted to turn on and would not recharge when attempted. Had been playing just fine the day before with no problems. For several months my iPOD has been freezing up; I do the reset and then it works for a while. This can happen several times a day. When it connected to iTunes, it made a whirring sound. Sometimes the battery will not charge when I plug it into the wall charger; it needs to be recharged everyday. At the Apple Store, they ran some tests (I don't know what kind of tests) but it passed. They said they thought it needed a new battery. Right now it is charged but it will NOT connect to iTUNES. The last time it connected to iTUNES I did a Restore but now it will not Sync. Thank you for helping me. I use my iPOD everyday to listen to Audiobooks
It simply won't turn on. It seemed as though it was "trying" to for a few attempts (something was showing up on the screen, dimly, but then it went blank each time). I used your battery replacement kit back in February of 2008, but overall I haven't actually used the device much, except sporadically (long trips in the car). iPOD got rained on. When attempting to recharge battery the unit gets hot and does'nt turn on.
Doesn't seem to want to keep a charge. Also, a coke (with sugar) was spilled on it several months ago. Exterior was cleaned and it appeared fine, but that may be contributing to the problems now. If I do not charge the ipod every day or so it loses charge. Once it loses charge when I plug it in to charge it will not show charge it only shows the error and low battery screens alternating. I have to take the unit apart unhook the hard drive and battery to get the unit to reset and allow it to charge properly. As long as I keep it charge it works fine most of the time. Occasionally it will lock up and I have to disassemble it to reset it that way as well. It is now locked and holding the Menu & center buttons has not worked. I doesn't hold a charge very long and has been locking up quite frequently but I've been able to unlock it up to now.
The ipod works fine when in the Bose Soundock, allows playback, browsing, etc. Removing the ipod, it dies and shows dead battery. This is a 20 gb model that has trouble holding a charge. Also, it freezes up occasionally during the beginning of a song. Hi! I just replace the battery and my Ipod still don't work. It goes from the apple logo to !foulder to do not disconnect to disconnect now and back to logo, but dont charge or start's up to the main menu. 1. The click wheel has had problems scrolling for a few weeks but no longer scrolls at all. Initially, cleaning the wheel and sliding the lock button back and forth helped, but no longer does. 2. If the above is repairable, at nominal cost, I'd also like the battery be replaced with the 1200 mA-hr version. Needs battery replacement, works fine. I ordered the battery for a 4th generation (order J108157RG) but upon opening the iPod, evident this is wrong model. After again looking @ web site, suspect is an iPod photo, but video doesn't look like it. I surrender, am sending to you for new battery, and returning above order/battery for refund. thanks. The iPod PHOTO hasn't been up to speed in quite some time, I bought a newer iPod since so it's been out of use. Almost positive it is the battery only there. Would be thrilled if it was back up and running. My 4g ipod would not charge. All I had was the Apple screen. tried the troubleshooting procedures on the Apple Store support webpage but nothing helped.A friend purchased a new battery and installed it. I could sometimes get the menu screen but I couldn't select any options. I restored the ipod via itunes. It instructed me to plug the ipod into an outlet, but for some reason I don't have a cord, just the charging stand that connects to my computer. I notice the little lock icon was showing on the screen. I decided to open the case again and saw that the ribbon cable was no longer connected. I didn't know how to fix that, or even if it could be fixed. At this point I decided to send it to you for repairs.
Ipod 4th G -- Sad Ipod face with support URL, then battery image, no other responses. When I press play it begins to play 3-5 seconds of a song, then it skips on to the next song, then the next, then the next. Or sometimes, you press play, then it just keeps scrolling from song to song without ever stopping. Hope this helps. Battery doesn't hold charge and won't even power up. (I'm doing this as a suprise for my husband, so there might be other things, but I'm not sure...) My iPod dies several times a year, but usually can be resurrected if I leave it plugged in for several days without touching it. Lately it has not been coming back to life. I have gotten the sad iPod icon as well as the battery w/ lightning bolt icon. I am hoping it just needs a new battery. Please save my iPod! It's an old friend and I can't bear the thought of those new-fangled ones! :) The unit runs fine although the battery life is bad. I'd also like a cost estimate to replace the front screen/face as it's scratched quite a bit. The problem is that my iPod turns off, does not recharge, and shows the message to contact iPod support. I have replaced the battery once with a batterry replacement kit bought from you, and have also taken it to an Apple Store for repair. The problem is temporarily solved, but then reappears. Please let me know about the problem and if it is of any use to keep on changing the battery, or if the problem is due to some other cause. Thanks! I want new batteries in both and I have no sound from both. This 4th generation iPod was declared dead by Apple Geniuses in Los Angles, it sat on my son's coffee table for a year and I picked it up on my return trip a year latter and brought it home to Hawaii where it worked, but I think the battery is bad. I would like to bring this classic back to life. Mahalo nui loa.
